I think I’ve mentioned here that I took up knitting again after a 25 year break. When I started again two and a half years ago, I made funky knit scarves for my daughters and my oldest granddaughter and my agent and finally all the gals in my brainstorming group. I’ve also made some hand warmers and leg warmers, but the funky scarves remain my favorites.
Hats, on the other hand, have given me a royal pain. My oldest grandson asked for a hat. I knit two of them, and both turned out to be big enough for the Jolly Green Giant, were he in need of a hat. I understand how that happened with the first one. I was on a learning curve. But the second one I was so careful to measure and all that. And it still was huge!
Well, I had a bit of extra yarn and decided to give a hat another try, this time a ribbed beanie for moi. I’m pleased to say, it actually fits, although I wish I’d made it just a tad longer than the pattern called for (to cover my ears completely). But at least I didn’t have to look for somebody with a size XXXXXX head to wear it.
The thing I like about knitting is I can have the TV on and keep up with some of my favorite shows, but still accomplish something. A writer friend of mine actually reads books on her laptop while knitting. I’m afraid I’m not that coordinated.
P.S. The temps today were in the high 80’s, so it doesn’t feel much like beanie wearing weather. But I know winter is just around the corner.
