Mankind was made in the image of God. And God made us for community. God Himself is a community (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, three in One). He made us to be in relationship with Him and to be in relationship with each other.
In 2003, I received an invitation to attend a retreat in northern Idaho. I almost said no. Of all the others coming, I knew only two of them slightly. The rest were strangers. And while I am an extravert, spending five days with people I didn’t know was a little intimidating.
But I did say yes. I believe that was a God thing.
No one, including the hostess (I venture to say), envisioned what would happen over those five days, how God would begin to knit together this group of women into a sisterhood that would grow stronger, year by year. This year will be our 18th retreat. Should be our 19th, but COVID cancelled our get together last year.
I feel so blessed to call these women my sisters in Christ and my beloved friends. We have prayed each other through the loss of loved ones, through heartbreak, through cancer and broken bones, through the selling of homes and moving from one state to another, and through so very much more. We have learned from one another and we have shared wisdom with one another.
Thank You, Jesus, that You didn’t let me say no back in 2003.
We were made for community, and God has put me into this very special community of women. I am grateful.
