So I’m standing in my kitchen yesterday and just happen to glance up at the ceiling and there is this suspicious kind of pucker in the drywall. A closer look reveals a good-sized round discoloration, too. This spot is immediately under the drain in our master bath shower stall.
Before the house was a year old, we discovered a much smaller but similar stain in the same area, called the builder, he sent a plumber who applied some sealant to the shower stall drain. That has lasted about seven years.
Well, I now have a 16" by 16" square hole in my kitchen ceiling and a new, better drain basket with new, much better sealant underneath my shower stall (a shower stall I can’t use for 24 hours). My credit card has a new higher balance as well. Ka-ching! The carpenter will be out on Monday to tell us what it will cost to make that hole go away. Ka-ching!
Lesson learned? Always look up.
