I started telling others about The Noticer by the time I'd finished reading the very first chapter. The publisher describes it as a blend of "fiction, allegory, and inspiration," and that makes for a very interesting and entertaining read. But this book isn't just about entertainment. It has so much wisdom between its covers that I found myself underlining and marking the pages so I could return to them again.
There was one chapter where Jones, a mysterious man who helps others gain perspective, is talking to some young people about how to avoid divorce in the future by paying attention (noticing) the people they date. I immediately wanted my 16 year old granddaughter to read that chapter. There was another chapter where Jones talks to a woman in her 70's, helping her to see that her life still has worth and importance, and I found myself telling others "of a certain age" about some of the wisdom Jones shared in that chapter.
This book is a treasure and every chapter a gem. Its about 160 pages long and gift book size. You are going to want to buy several copies and give it to people you love. Read it. Learn from it. Enjoy it.
Here's the official blurb:
Sometimes, All A Person Needs Is A Little Perspective
A moving story of common wisdom from the bestselling author of The Traveler’s Gift.
Orange Beach, Alabama is a simple town filled with simple people. But they all have their share of problems – marriages teetering on the brink of divorce, young adults giving up on life, business people on the verge of bankruptcy, and many of the other obstacles that life seems to dish out to the masses.
Fortunately, when things look the darkest – a mysterious old man named Jones has a miraculous way of showing up. Communicating what he calls “a little perspective,” Jones explains that he has been given a gift of noticing things that others miss. In his simple interactions, Jones speaks to that part in everyone that is yearning to understand why things happen and what they can do about it.
Based on a remarkable true story, The Noticer beautifully blends fiction, allegory, and inspiration.
Don't miss this wonderful book.
