Today, I’m featuring the authors of Four Weddings and a Kiss. Which means I get to play too! I hope you enjoy reading all the answers.
Margaret Brownley is a New York Times best-selling author and has penned more than thirty novels. Her books have won numerous awards and has written for a TV soap opera.
Robin Lee Hatcher is a Christy and RITA award-winning author. She is the author of over seventy novels and her work often appear on bestseller lists.
Mary Connealy is an award-winning author of romantic comedy with cowboys. Mary and her Nebraska rancher husband have four grown daughters and two spectacular grandchildren.
Debra Clopton is an award winning author of sweet, heartfelt, western romance that face life with a smile. With over 2 million books in print, Debra’s first book-to-movie aired on ABC Family and starred LeAnn Rimes.
What was your favorite book as a child?
Margaret: My favorite book was Little Women. I pretended I was Jo, the writer.
Robin: Any and every book with horses in it. Two come quickly to mind: Old Bones and Golden Cloud. Especially loved books written by Glen Balch because he wrote about wild horses in the Owyhee Mountains of Idaho (and I went to school with his son from grade school through high school).
Mary: The Black Stallion
Debra: The Littlest Mermaid (it’s a romance!)
What book did you read that first made you want to be an author?
Margaret: I really can’t remember. I’m pretty sure I wanted to be a writer before I could read. I think the book that influenced me most as a budding writer was Gone With the Wind which I first read at age thirteen. I always thought history was dull and boring—all those dates and battles. GWTW made me realize that history was really about people and how they related to what was happening around them.
Robin: There are so many wonderful books I read from childhood into adulthood. All had some influence on my desire to write. But the novel that finally made me decide to try my hand at writing was one that disappointed me.
Mary: Where Are the Children, Mary Higgens Clark
Debra: ? It wasn’t one book alone. It was that I loved romance books and happy endings.
What was the last book you read, just for fun?
Margaret: I just finished reading Robin Lee Hatcher’s The Heart’s Pursuit.
Robin: A May Bride by Meg Moseley. (And I didn’t pay Margaret or Debra to name my books!)
Mary: Trunk Music by Michael Connelly
Debra: Robin Lee Hatcher’s A Promise Kept—great book!
What upcoming release are you most looking forward to?
Margaret: This is a tough question to answer since I have several of my own books soon to be released. Assuming you mean releases other than my own, I’ve preordered Lee Child’s September release Personal; Janet Evanovich’s Top Secret Twenty-One; Susan Wigg’s The Beekeeper’s Ball and Janet Weiner’s All Fall Down. Got a busy summer ahead.
Robin: By another author: Wrestling With Wonder: A Transformational Journey through the Life of Mary by Marlo Schalesky (I have heard awesome advance buzz about this book). By me: Love Without End, the first book in a new contemporary series, Kings Meadow Romance (November 2014). Readers and reviewers fell in love with the setting of Kings Meadow, along with me, in A Promise Kept so I just had to return for a few more stories.
Mary: I’ve got a tie because I’ve got two books releasing close together. Four Weddings and a Kiss, the novella collection I did with Robin Lee Hatcher, Margaret Brownley and Debra Clopton, and Stuck Together, book #3 in my Trouble in Texas series. I’ve been eagerly anticipating both for so long!
Debra: I’ve been looking forward to the release of Four Weddings and A Kiss—I love all the stories so much. But I’m really thrilled and excited about my first single title, Betting on Hope, which releases Jan 2015 from Harper Collins Christian Publishing/Thomas Nelson. I’m just thrilled about the opportunity to bring the Monahan brothers to life in this series.
