The 4th of July. A fitting day to express my love of country. Sure, I see many of America’s “warts.” As a nation, we have an abundance of faults and in my lifetime we have thrown away many of our values and our freedoms. But that doesn’t lessen my knowledge that this is still the greatest nation in the world. God has blessed us as a country and continues to bless us, despite ourselves.
I’m so thankful to God that my ancestors came to America from Ireland, from Sweden, and from England. I’m so glad that they were men and women who believed in Jesus, whose Christian faith was a large part of the fabric of their lives.
Today, I say with pride: I pledge allegience to the flag of the United States of America. And to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
It’s kind of fitting that the book I’m working on is about immigrants coming to America for a better life.
