I have read through the Bible about ten times during my life. My practice since 1997 has been to read through the whole Bible in odd numbered years and through the New Testament three to four times in even numbered years. In 2006, I participated with members of my church in the Bible in 90 Days. (Now that was a whirlwind reading!)
My spiritual life has been so enriched by spending time in God’s written word, and I love encouraging others to develop a habit of reading through the Bible on some kind of regular basis. Thus I want to tell my blog readers about Project 1189. It’s a blog and reading program where we’re challenged to read through the Bible’s 1189 chapters over the course of two years. It’s led by Mike, one of the pastors at the Boise Vineyard, who will blog each week about what we’re reading.
This journey isn’t about conquering the Word, of merely circumnavigating the biblical globe so we can say, “I’ve done it!” We also mustn’t seek to colonize these biblical lands, pressing their inhabitants into our service, acquiring specimens of the flora and fauna, or plundering its pages for gold to enrich our own lives.
You can go to the site and read Mike’s first blog post (Warm-up), discover a little more about him, and get the weekly reading schedule. You can hop in now and catch up really quickly. We’re just getting started.
I hope you’ll join us on this new journey.
