Last week a PDF copy of my first pass pages of You’re Gonna Love Me arrived in my inbox, with a print copy arriving at my door a few days later. Depending on the publisher, these can be called different things, but basically this is the author’s last chance to catch typos and other errors in her manuscript before it goes to press.

Although most authors probably still write their changes/corrections on the printed pages, in recent years, I have been using an app on my iPad because it makes my life so much easier.
The app is called Goodreader (not to be confused with the website Goodreads.com, also a favorite).
With the Goodreader annotation app, I can write right on the pages with my Apple Pencil (now that I have an iPad Pro) or I can type notes. I can strike out words. I can highlight a sentence or a paragraph. And so much more than I have bothered to figure out.

But the real beauty of this app is that when I am completely finished, I can “share” it via email with my editor. The annotated PDF is attached to the email, but all of those changes, with page numbers, is included in the body of my email as well. Automatically. The app does it. All I do is press a button.
Where the annotation summary in the photo says “Drawing” is where I wrote a note like “delete,” and those drawn words/notes can only be seen by going to the page in the PDF. But at least the editor knows to look for something handwritten on that page.
Using the Goodreader app has made proofing first pass pages so much easier and faster, and I no longer have to fax or mail back pages to the editor, another huge plus.
So, if you have anything to do with proofing words for print, I recommend you give this app a try.
And now for Boo…
As I shared in my tribute to our precious dog Poppet, we have been waiting for the arrival of our new Papillon puppy, Boo Bear. Boo for short. That day finally came on Monday morning. Anybody who is my Facebook friend has been deluged with photos of puppy toys and puppy food and the puppy herself (when the breeder sent one) for several weeks. Yes, I am completely goofy in love with this wonderful little (3.49 lbs) ball of fluff.

If I am too busy playing with Boo to write a new blog post before then, I hope those of you in the USA have a wonderful Independence Day. See you next time.

Thanks, Carol. I admit I am totally obsessed with her.
I hope you have a wonderful July 4th celebrating with Boo Bear, Pinky and of coarse your husband and family.
Thanks!
