When I’m sick with a head cold, I don’t do well with reading books. So, between catnaps, movies are the ticket. Netflix delivered three to my mailbox on Wednesday, just in the nick of time.
First up was Nanny McPhee. Great family entertainment. A little bit of Mary Poppins, but with a bit less sugar and a touch more sass. I enjoyed it so much that when my daughter and grandchildren dropped by, we put it back in the DVD player and I saw it a second time. I give it 5 stars.
Next came The New World. Visually stunning but as slow as molasses. I wanted so much to love his movie. Sadly, I didn’t. I found it boring. The actors are fine and quite pleasant to watch. The costumes felt authentic as did the sets. Again it is visually stunning, no doubt about it. But the script was a snooze. I give it 2+ stars (or perhaps a 3-).
Finally, I watched Bee Season. I disliked this movie. A lot. Kaballah and Hare Krishna and mysticism and insanity and spelling bees all mixed together in a bunch of silliness. A complete waste of time. I give it 2 stars (and I feel generous for scoring it that high).
Maybe my next Netflix batch will all be winners. This time was only one out of three.
