Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas

Today is Christmas Eve, tomorrow is Christmas. The faithful world over will pause this weekend to celebrate the first coming of the King, Jesus the Messiah.

Many of us have nativity sets in our home for this season. Many of us envision that the night of Christ’s birth looked something like this graphic.

The Nativity

But as I have studied the Scriptures through a Middle Eastern lens in recent years, I have learned that there is a lot wrong with this picture, beginning with the location. Jesus wasn’t born in a barn as we understand it nor were Joseph and Mary turned away from a commercial inn nor left out on the streets to fend for themselves.

If you would like to gain a clearer understanding of the circumstances of Jesus’s birth, take the time to watch this video from Brad Gray at Walking the Text.

God bless you this Christmas and in the year to come. May every step you take draw you closer to Jesus.
