Like every other month, June flew by in a blur. The best part of the month was the trip to Las Vegas to meet up with two of the other authors of Four Weddings and a Kiss so we could film a video (my husband Jerry was the videographer and the other husbands assisted) and sign our book at the American Library Association convention. It was a 12 hour drive each way, 1400+ miles total, and I’m still feeling tired a couple of days after our return.
Here’s the wrap-up about the rest of the month.
I completed five books in June (four fiction and one non-fiction), all of them good to great. I am currently 75% finished with my goal of 40 books for the year which is 11 books ahead of schedule. Last year’s goal was 30 books which is what I’ve read already in the first six months of 2014. I love being challenged to read more, despite my limited reading time.
The trip to Vegas was perfect for listening to my favorite book of the month, Bridge to Haven by Francine Rivers. I loved it. It’s a big fat book and it took us all the way to Vegas and part way back home again. The non-fiction was a writing book by James Scott Bell, Write Your Novel From the Middle. If you are a writer, even a “pantser” like me, this is an excellent book, and I plan to read it through a second time soon.
I haven’t kept up very well with the Beth Moore study, but I continue with the through the Bible reading and my church’s study of the book of John.
Movies & TV:
We didn’t make it to the theater in June, despite there being movies we wanted to see. Just not enough time. As for TV, the new seasons of Major Crimes and Rizzoli & Isles started in June, both shows I enjoy following. So You Think You Can Dance also kicked off its summer run, but I haven’t gotten into it yet. The try-outs are over, and I have the first (only?) show as they begin the thinning out process to get their final 20 waiting for me on the DVR.
From June 2 through June 29, I walked 90.04 miles. That’s an improvement over recent months, but still not up to my goal. I read recently that when we sit still for 90 minutes, our metabolism shuts off completely. We burn no calories until we get up and move again. So I am trying to make sure I get up and move more often, and I’m doing most of my treadmill work in shorter periods broken up through the day.
- I’m still working on book #2 in the Kings Meadow Romance series. Must finish ASAP. (I have the cover already for the book and will be revealing it soon!!)
- I’m currently reading/correcting the page proofs of the first book in the Kings Meadow Romance series, Love Without End.
- Ideas are rolling around in my head for the novella I will write next. It will be part of the Brides series from Zondervan but it is also set in Kings Meadow and will feature characters introduced in Book #2 of the series.
And that concludes another monthly wrap-up! Until next time…
