Blessings on you, dear readers of this blog, on this Christmas Eve. I pray that you will have a blessed evening as you remember the gift of the Holy Child who came on this night so long ago. Born in a lowly stable, He was the One True King of the Ages and He reigns to this day.
Perhaps that is why, in this morning’s Bible reading of Revelation 1-3, I felt drawn to the names John uses for Jesus.
- Him who is and who was and who is to come
- the faithful witness
- the first-born of the dead
- the ruler of the kings of the earth
- Him who loves us and released us from our sins by His blood
- the Alpha and the Omega
- the Almighty
- the living One
- the One who holds the seven stars in His right hand
- the One who walks among the seven golden lampstands
- the first and the last, who was dead, and has come to life
- the One who has the sharp two-edged sword
- the Son of God
- He who has the seven Spirits of God and the seven stars
- He who is holy
- He who is true
- He who has the key of David
- He who opens and no one will shut
- He who shuts and no one opens
- the Amen
- the faithful and true Witness
- the Beginning of the creation of God
Amen.
