…then how come I like so many different sci-fi movies? There are the first three Star Wars movies and Close Encounters and the Wrath of Khan Star Trek movie. Those are all fun to watch.
Right now I’m watching Stargate (Kurt Russell and James Spader) on cable. I’ve been a fan of this movie since I first saw it in theaters in 1994. That was also when I became a fan of James Spader. He was such a cute klutz of a guy in this movie.
Another favorite is The Fifth Element. Bruce Willis rocks as a shoot ’em up space taxi driver cum hero. Excitement and humor abound. And the heroine, Leeloo, gets to wear some pretty outrageous costumes, too. My daughter of the dreadlocks and blue hair extensions could pull them off.
And finally there is the Kris Kristofferson and Cheryl Ladd movie, Millennium. While I wouldn’t have wanted to plunk down $7 to see it in theaters, I did watch it a number of times when it showed up on cable back in the early ’90’s. No, it isn’t a great film. It’s kind of campy. But I think I liked the idea of people from the future swooping in and rescuing passengers off of airplanes before they crashed.
So there you have it. The gal who doesn’t like sci-fi still likes these flicks. Go figure.
