Tonight we went from seven to six. We are getting down to the wire, aren’t we?
I guessed two of the bottom three correctly (Sanjaya and Lakisha) but was surprised to see Blake there instead of Chris. And was delighted not to see Phil there (I voted a bunch of times for him; must have helped).
A note about Martina McBride. She was awesome, and she sang my favorite song (Anyway) from her latest album (Waking Up Laughing). I bought the album two or three weeks ago and have listened to it over and over again in my car.
There was a discussion today on one of my writers’ email groups about American Idol and Sanjaya. A number of writers mentioned their daughters and nieces and other young kids and tweens who were part of Sanjaya’s voting block. Some thought he would go further. No one thought he would win. Well, that’s for sure because he went home tonight. He looked like he knew it was coming, and he was definitely heartbroken to be leaving. (And I still think it is cruelty to make them sing after the hard news, especially if it was a bad performance/song that got them voted off.)
Best wishes to you, Sanjaya. Don’t let all this hoopla go to your head. Stay as nice as so many of your fellow contestants have said you are.
