Michael Lynche kicked off the night with It's a Man's World. I thought it was a great song choice for him. Lot's of soul. I agreed with Simon that it didn't sound like an old song, even though it is.
John Park was next with Gravity. Hmm. It just didn't have any "wow" factor. None of the judges seemed to feel anything either.
Casey James was up next with I Don't Want to Be. This guy can rock an electric guitar, but I didn't think it was as great of a vocal as he's done in the past. But I still like this young man a lot. The judges all seemed to agree with me.
Next came Alex Lambert. The kid suffers from stage fright. He doesn't look as frightened as last week as he performs Everybody Knows. The start was rough, but it came together as he continued. I still wasn't excited. The judges all felt he came a long, long way.
[I guess there was a performance here by Todrick Hall, but I seem to have missed it entirely. Not sure where my head was 'cause my body was in the room. I realized after all the performances were done that my call in numbers were off. Then the recap confirmed that I missed Todrick. Sorry.]
Jermaine Sellers sang What's Going On. Sigh. I'm not feeling it. The judges were all in agreement that Jermaine is in trouble and might not make it through to next week.
Next up was Andrew Garcia with You Give Me Something. I liked it, though I don't think it was his best performance. He reminds me quite a bit of Danny Gokey which is a good thing in my book. (I bought Danny's debut album today!!!) The judges expressed their disappointment (except for Ellen). They expect and want more from Andrew.
The Temptations' My Girl was Aaron Kelly's song choice. I actually liked it a whole lot better than I thought I would. Much better at the start than at the end.
Tim Urban brought us Come On Get Higher. Cute kid. Better job than last week. Judges gave mixed feedback but heavier on the negative than the praise.
Last but not least, Lee DeWyze brought the show to a close with Lips of an Angel. Another hmm from me. I like his voice, but he sounded off-key a few times. Judges really like this guy. Better than I do, I think.
This week wasn't as bad as last week, but overall it wasn't impressive. Michael Lynche was the only absolute stand-out. Entertaining, great vocals, owned the stage. Casey James would get my runner up spot. I think Lee DeWyze and Andrew Garcia should be safe. Anybody else could go in my opinion.
