Well, we are down to the final three. I think we’ve got three fine finalists, and I also think that whoever wins this year will be deserving. I’ve got my favorite, but I will rejoice for the two who move into the finals.
First songs tonight were judges’ picks.
Danny kicked off the night with Paula’s pick: Terence Trent D’Arby’s Dance Little Sister. I enjoyed it. Very strong performance. His voice was great. A couple of judges picked on his dancing. I didn’t think it was all that bad.
Randy and Kara selected Kris’s song: OneRepublic’s Apologize. He sang at the piano. A more subdued performance, but very nice.
Adam’s song choice came from Simon: U2’s One. Started mellow and lovely but he goes into shriek mode in the second half of the song. Judges loved it, but it definitely wasn’t a favorite performance of mine. The shrieking parts were pitchy (as if the shrieking wasn’t enough). I never go for the screaming-singing. Loses me every time.
Now it was time for the contestants to choose any sort of song they want (no theme night, no mentors or judges giving input).
Danny’s choice was You Are So Beautiful. What can I say? I loved it. A beautiful performance. Judges raved, ending with Simon calling it a “vocal master class.”
Kris goes for Heartless. Kris and his guitar nailed it!!!!!!! Awesome. Judges loved it. Me too.
Adam’s choice was Cryin‘. I thought the arrangement and the band were poor, and I can’t praise Adam’s performance as much as the judges did although I think he will surely go on to be a rock star.
Adding each performer’s two songs together, I would rank them this way tonight:
It will be interesting to see who goes home tomorrow. I think it could be anybody just because I think any of the three could also win.
Good luck, guys.
