Was there a collectable intake of breath across the nation when it was announced that Adam was in the bottom three (his first time there, I believe)? I think there must have been. But really, why? There were only five contestants this week, so the odds were high that someone’s fans would be surprised. And while Adam is very talented, so are tonight’s top two — Allison and Danny. For that matter, so are the other two in the bottom three, Kris and Matt. But at the half hour point, I remained convinced that the singer going home would be Matt.
We had performances from Natalie Cole and Taylor Hicks. It was fun to see Taylor on the Idol stage again. I like that guy a lot. There’s just something real about him. After Taylor left the stage, Kris got sent to safety.
Okay, there was no doubt in my mind at that point who was going home. I think the producers were so delighted to have Adam in the bottom three just so they could ramp up the tension. But I knew he had more fans than that. Matt would go home and Adam would survive to sing again.
Next up was mentor Jamie Foxx’s performance. His music isn’t my cup of tea, and I confess I’m no fan after his rude remarks about Miley Cyrus. It was mostly a time filler for me.
And finally we learned who was going home.
Matt, here’s to great success for you. Thanks for giving us some great performances.
