This morning I completed the reading of Mark, the second of the gospels. The New Testament is going to speed by. The Bible in 90 Days will be completed in 16 more days.
I thought this morning I would look at who Jesus is, using the Book of Mark and the notes in my True Identity Bible (Zondervan, see side bar under "Bibles I Use"):
Jesus is God alone. "Because Jesus is God, he alone can heal you or any friend of yours who’s hurting. He first heals the soul — of the fatality of sin, of sadness, fear, failure or despair. If you have a friend who’s hurting, bring her to Jesus. He is God alone and is able to liberate body and soul from sin."
Jesus is the Messiah. "The most important question you’ll ever answer is the same one posed by Jesus: Who do you say I am? If you say he was just a good man, or a powerful prophet, then he couldn’t be the God-man — and he wouldn’t have the power to save you. The only correct answer is Peter’s, though you must answer for yourself."
Jesus is I am. "When Jesus stood trial before the hypocritical religious leaders who had plotted to put him to death, he showed silent restraint when false accusations were brought against him. But there was one question he answered. When asked, Are you the Messiah? Jesus responded, I am… I AM — the very name God revealed to Moses at the burning bush (see Exodus 3:14). Is Jesus the I AM to you? If you asked who he is, he would answer, I am your provider, I am your peace, I am your friend, I am always with you … I am your everything."
Amen. Jesus is my everything.
