I guess I never found a moment to share on Write Thinking that I would be at a conference in Scottsdale, Arizona over the weekend. I flew down on Thursday, going in a day early with the plan to enjoy some spring sunshine by the pool. Delta Airlines did its best to see that I didn't get to do it. Sigh!
My itinerary put me at the hotel around lunch time. In actuality, I got there around dinner time after an additional two-plus hours of flying and an additional three-plus hours of layover, switching to a different airline, and no room for my briefcase on the last leg which meant I had to remove my laptop and my Kindle and my workshop overheads/notebook and anything else of value so they could check the bag. Thankfully, both the briefcase and my checked suitcase came onto the carousel at the appropriate time.
I did get in some time by the pool on Friday morning. I soaked up a few rays while reading a research book. I'm including a few photos on this post, two views from my fourth floor room and another of me poolside, frowning in the sunshine.
I had a great time during the conference, reconnecting with a few old friends who I haven't seen in years and making new friends, too.
The flight home started off well, but went from good to bad to worse. I was stuck in an overheated plane with 100+ other people on the ground for two-plus hours because the auxiliary power wasn't working. Finally we got off the ground in SLC for the flight to Boise, but my checked bag didn't make it this time. But since the flight was so late, I only had to hang around an extra half hour for the bag to arrive on the last Delta flight into Boise.
I think, most of all, what I brought back with me from Arizona was a new determination to embrace life in all its facets. I'm not sure exactly how that's going to play out. I just know I'm feeling excited to see what happens next.
Now my WIP (work in progress) awaits.
