One of the blog posts that was lost in my recent rebuild of my site was my July 2015 wrap-up in which I did a review of The Silencing: How the Left is Killing Free Speech by Kirsten Powers. I think this book is important enough for me to share it again, especially in this upsetting election year.
The author identifies herself as a liberal. As a conservative, I would disagree with Ms. Powers on a number of personal and political stances. However, she doesn’t flinch away from the truth of what is happening in this country (and probably throughout the western world) in regard to free speech.
Did you know that some universities have designated “free speech” areas? Appalling. We have college students raised to believe that those who disagree with them should be silenced or only allowed to speak freely in a special area. They shouldn’t have to hear anything that upsets them. Whoa! My parents and grandparents must be rolling over in their graves.
I highly recommend this book, no matter what your party affiliation. If we truly allow open discussion and an exchange of differing ideas to be killed in this country, we are one step closer to the complete destruction of what once made America great.
Comments about this book, including those opinions that disagree with me, are welcome, but if you try to silence differing opinions with hate-filled speech and foul language, the comment will be deleted or may not even make it past my filters.
