A Name Unknown

It’s my pleasure to host Roseanna M. White. Love historical romance? Then you need to check out her books because they are wonderful. Here’s a brief summary of her latest book, A Name Unknown:

Rosemary Gresham has no family beyond the band of former urchins that helped her survive as a girl in the mean streets of London. Grown now, they concentrate on stealing high-value items and have learned how to blend into upper-class society. But when Rosemary must determine whether a certain wealthy gentleman is loyal to Britain or to Germany, she is in for the challenge of a lifetime. How does one steal a family’s history, their very name?

Here’s what Roseanna has to share with scavenger hunt readers. Enjoy!

Collections . . . and Hoards

Are you a collector? Maybe it’s teacups or figurines. Could be candles or artwork. Princesses or teddy bears. Maybe people occasionally roll their eyes at you and mutter under their breaths, “Really? Another one?”

I never considered myself a collector of anything. Until someone pointed out that my bookshelves proved I was a pretty serious one. That I don’t just collect books—I hoard them.

But I don’t have a problem. So what if I routinely run out of shelf space? Yes, that means the books are stacked on top of each other for a while, rather than neatly shelved. But I eventually buy another shelf, and then everything’s neat and tidy again. And while, true, I’m almost out of wall space, those kids won’t live at home forever, right? I just have to make it another six years, and then I’ll have a whole room to convert into a library! And…what? Are those books in my kitchen?

Yes, why? Doesn’t everyone keep novels on the top of their china cabinet? What else would you put up there? Perhaps my son asked me why I was trying to turn our house into a library, but it was asked with amusement…I think. He did, after all, promise to buy me a library if he ever becomes rich and famous (the kid knows me, what can I say, LOL). But that’s not a problem. If anyone has a problem, it’s those family members who only have one bookcase in their house. I mean, really. One bookcase?! I’m really not sure I can even claim them.

As much as I may be in denial about my own shelves, LOL, they’re what inspired a large part of A Name Unknown: the disastrous library at my hero’s home, Kensey Manor. I thought it would be fun to take something most of my readers have in common—a love of books—and turn it on its head. Peter’s library takes my little issues and multiplies them exponentially. He has an entire, massive room dedicated to books and is the third generation to collect them so seriously that you can barely get inside the room. There are books on every flat surface. Stacks of them on the floor. You can barely see the shelves at all. They’re in no order. It’s so bad they couldn’t even get the room wired for electricity when they did the rest of the house.

Enter my heroine, who is not what one would call a book lover (gasp!) at the start of the book. But she poses as a librarian for some more underhanded purposes, in order to get into Peter’s house and discover, at the behest of her mysterious employer, whether he’s loyal to England or Germany in those tumultuous days before the Great War broke out in Europe in 1914. While studying her employer, she does indeed bring order to the chaos of the room his best friend has dubbed “the cave.” And frankly, she develops quite an affection for all those books. And, perhaps, for the collector who continues to fill his shelves as she orders them.

So what about you? Do you collect anything? And just for fun—how many bookcases do you have?

Meet Roseanna

Roseanna M. White is a bestselling, Christy Award nominated author who has long claimed that words are the air she breathes. When not writing fiction, she’s homeschooling her two kids, editing, designing book covers, and pretending her house will clean itself. Roseanna is the author of a slew of historical novels that span several continents and thousands of years. Spies and war and mayhem always seem to find their way into her books…to offset her real life, which is blessedly ordinary. You can learn more about her and her stories at www.RoseannaMWhite.com.

Here’s the Stop #2 Skinny:

You can order Roseanna’s book on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, CBD or at your local bookstore!

  1. I loved reading about Roseanna. I too am a hoarder of books and I also collect Gone With The Wind items. I did just what she says she’s going to do. My daughters are grown & married and I had one extra bedroom to begin with that I kept a big book case in then I made one of the girls bedroom into a library complete with a window seat and bookshelves on each side. So I had a big bookcase in our bedroom at the time and when I made both of those rooms libraries I finally had something just for myself. I have books along all sides. I wished this would let me show you pictures. So all together I have 12 book cases. Some are bigger ones and some a little smaller. Oh the problems of us book hoarders. And yes my family says when I buy more books, “Like you need one more book”? Haha! Even my grandchildren say “Really Grandmama”? “Another book”? 😂 Lol!

  2. Roseanna, I only have 3 bookshelves right now (and a big one for the kids) but I try to donate to our little village library as often as I can pry books from my greedy book dragon claws. A Name Unknown is a fabulous story, one of my favorites this year!

Thank you for the additional giveaway, Robin!

  3. My favorite thing about Christian Fiction Scavenger Hunts is learning about all the novels. It fills my TBR list for sure, but I love it! I also love when the authors teach me something about their books…maybe it is how they did their research, or how they were inspired by settings, etc. I love the learning aspect behind these hunts.

  4. This is my first Christian fiction scavenger hunt, and it’s been awesome so far!!!! I think my favorite part is finding out about different authors and books I haven’t heard of before

  5. I enjoy the scavenger hunt to learn more about new to me authors and also to become further acquainted with those authors I already follow. It is very educational, informative, and great fun. Thanks!

  6. I LOVE books and have so many bookshelves! Luckily, my husband loves books just as much as I do, and the third bedroom in our house IS a library. I’m 4 months pregnant, and just got a maternity shirt that says “Future Book Nerd” over the belly, because any child of ours is going to have to love books in order to survive in our family!

    1. That sounds adorable!! My youngest (9) still doesn’t love to read on his own…though he loves our daily time when I read to them for school, at least. I’ll convert him yet! LOL

  7. I love finding all the giveaways! 😀 Yeah, I like free stuff. I’m interested in many of the stories, too.

  15. Learning more about some of my favorite authors and their new books and the chance to win one of those books. Thanks for this scavenger hunt!

  16. I collect kaleidoscopes — and we have only six bookcases, which isn’t nearly enough. Our “problem” is that we have walls and walls of windows in our house. When we bought our house, it seems so light and airy…then came reality: We’d block out light with a bookcase — and we can barely hand anything on the walls! Oh well, there’s always a trade-off!

  17. I love getting to know new authors plus hearing what new books some of my favorite authors currently have.

  18. Meeting new authors I haven’t read many Christian fiction I’m looking forward to it

  32. I used to collect books – buying them at library book sales and bookstores. I used to have a small collection of teapots and teacups. Some unplanned events happened and now I live in a house that is too small to collect anything but memories!

  33. Just beginning and I already know about many Christian authors since I work in our church library. It is interesting to see how one author keeps a make believe town straight in her head!

  34. This is my first scavenger hunt–so far it’s been fun learning about authors whose books I haven’t read yet to see what I might want to add to me “to read” list.

  38. I hope I like this scavenger hunt. It’s my first time entering, but I do enjoy your books!

  39. This is my first Christian fiction scavenger hunt, too, and I’m really enjoying the information I’m learning about each author. By the way, I hoard yarn, I’m a knitter. And books. I have 2 book cases, and books all over almost every surface in my house. Except the kitchen. Ha ha!

    Romans 10:9-13; John 3:16-21

  40. I love the scavenger hunt because you have an opportunity to win nice things, as well as, learn about authors. I don’t know the names of a lot of authors, so it’s nice to know which ones write Christian material.

  49. This is my first Christian Fiction scavenger hunt, but it seems like it will be fun. I look forward to learning about new Christian authors.

  50. This is the first scavenger hunt I’ve done, but I am excited to meet new authors and learn about their books!

  51. This is the first scavenger hunt I have participated in. Looking forward to seeing what authors are participating, especially ones that I am not familiar with.

  59. This is my first scavenger hunt! I’m hoping to maybe win a prize, but at the very least, to see how they are done. Hopefully one day I’ll get to be in one! : )

  60. I am a book hoarder. I have book on bookshelf, in containers, on the floor and on my tablets. I cannot turn alway from a book. I even had a stack at work for just in case.

  61. I love ‘meeting’ new authors. I also like the chance to win great prizes, particularly books!

  62. My favorite thing about THIS scavenger hunt is that it seems pretty simple. Go to “this site” and do this. That I can do! Roseanna’s book looks intriguing. I have long enjoyed all of Robin Hatcher’s books as well. I still remember the “girls” of Bethlehem Springs!

  63. I love the mystery of trying to figure out the message and being reminded of authors that you like to read

  64. I don’t know what I love about the scavenger hunt yet as this is my first, but so far, ive enjoyed reading the blog posts and peeking into the new story lines.

  65. My favorite thing about the Christian Fiction Scavenger Hunts are that I always learn something new. Either I am learning about a new to me author or I am learning about new books or even just learning something new about the authors themselves. I love that!

Also, in answer to Roseanna’s question, I have six bookcases (all various sizes) and then there are books stacked on other flat surfaces and tucked in nooks and crannies. No, I don’t think I have a problem… 🙂

  66. This is the first one I’ve done, but I’m enjoying meeting all the authors and entering the giveaways, hope I win something!

  67. My favorite thing is finding out about different books and some background information about the authors. Also the scavenger hunt is just plain old fun! Haha.

  68. I love the fun of finding clues, but even more, I love reading the fascinating details about each author and his/her books. For instance, I’m also a book hoarder. Since my books don’t all fit in my bookcases, I have plastic tubs of hundreds more books stored in alphabetical order by author’s last name. I also have a data base listing the books alphabetically by titles along with their authors. I read close to 100 books a year now that I’m retired.

  69. I love reading about books that are new to me! There are so many authors out there, and I haven’t “met” all of them yet, so this is the perfect opportunity to get to know them!

  70. I love learning about authors whose books I haven’t read and the way they develop their books.

  71. Yes I can relate to collecting books! Until I get rich and famous I must resort to buying some books for Kindle and Nook, as that’s the room our apartment will afford at present! Praise God for Christian authors whose books can fill our shelves!

  72. Since this is my first scavenger hunt and only the second stop, it’s hard to know. I would say registering for giveaways.

  73. I enjoy interacting with authors & meeting new authors & discovering new books.

I confess I AM AN BOOK ADDICT & A BOOK HOARDER. It started when I learned to read my very first sentence. I’ve been hooked since! My parents (who weren’t readers) graciously fed my addiction.

Oh & about those bookshelves – I have 6. One takes up a whole wall in a room & I have the cabinets below filled with Record Albums in Mint Condition. I am married to a General Contractor/Master Carpenter (NON READER) but he has built me some very fine bookshelves! Our young adult daughter (25) recently redid our Bookshelves in our Family Room. I almost had a FIT! I told they were called “Bookshelves” for a reason! I have signed First Editions by several of our State’s authors as well as other favorites I have collected through the years that are displayed there. I have some irreplaceable ones in a cabinet in my bedroom. My bookshelves in our Family Room are organized but everywhere else they are BURSTING & crying for more space, in boxes & I have a stack on my nightstand. Yes, I have a Kindle with 1300 books on it, too.

  74. I’ve participated in several scavenger hunts and love them because I can discover new blogs to follow, learn about all the books the authors have out (and often the behind the scenes inspiration for them), and generally have fun! And who can resist the chance to win some new reads?? 😉

I don’t have as many bookshelves as you do, I only have three. But in my defense, they are two rows deep for my big novels and my Love Inspired are three rows deep! I haven’t taken the time lately to estimate how many books those represent but it’s probably 300-400 give or take! And it’s NOT hoarding if it’s books…lol!

    1. Oh and by the way Robin, I went on my libraries digital Overdrive system and requested they purchase these two new titles in ebook form and they did!!

  75. This is my first Christian fiction scavenger hunt and I’m looking forward to meeting some new authors!

  76. Roseanna – 10 bookcases, and little wall space left. (Lots of windows). Plus books double deep on the shelves AND stacked atop!

Robin ~ Being introduced to new authors and new books.

Thanks both of you, for participating in this one.

    Mary Kay

  77. Oh, this is my first hunt 🙂 and I love it! So much fun to get to know new authors. Thank you for the opportunity!

  78. Yes, Roseanna, I do collect things – and I also don’t think I have a problem but have friends who say I do 😉 I collect bells, shells and other knick-knacks but my favourite collection is probably my candle collection – so much prettiness!
Just this last few weeks I’ve completely reorganised my set of bookshelves (alas I have only one, but that will change when I move out of home, I’m sure!). I was completely happy with the perfectly fitting shelves for each genre – and then I couldn’t resist yet another new book when i saw it on sale. No idea where it’s going to live, but oh well!

For the competition entry, my favourite thing about this contest is that it exists at all! I would have had no clue except that I’m on Lisa Harris’ mail list. Very excited to learn about some authors for the first time and to maybe win a prize or two.

    1. I collect teacups and teapots. I just bought a new (used) China cabinet to display some of them. I also, like many readers, collec books and have a half dozen book cases so far! My favorite part of the scavenger hunt is getting to know more about the authors!

  79. I love getting to meet new authors and saying hi to those I already know. They give us a bit of insight into their lives.

  80. i like not only getting to know new authors, but i also might get the chance to win some books. With me being on a fixed income i can not afford books…..but i do love books so well.

  81. I love reading about my favorite authors again, and learning about ones I haven’t paid attention to before.

  82. You are in very safe company here. I actually just went through my books a couple of months ago & pulled out a bunch (would say a few, but over 75 is not really a few) & gave to my church library. Of course the floor stack is slowly growing again. I love discovering authors who have out more than one book. That instantly helps my tread list. Thank you for writing.

  83. This is my first time doing the scavenger hunt, but I do love finding new authors and possible favorite new books!

  84. This is my first time to participate in a scavenger hunt, so I’m having fun exploring.

  85. I enjoy the Christian hunts because I find new authors that I can recommend to my cousin who does not have a computer. So I tell her about the ones I find.

  86. l enjoy the hunt because I get to learn new things about my favorite authors and see the new books coming out that I have yet to get my hands on….. 🙂

  87. I have never been involved in a Christian Scavenger Hunt online. I am excited to see what happens at each stop. And all from the comfort of my own home. Sweet!

  88. I love finding new christian authors that I have not read. It’s fun finding the clues and learning about the authors lives

  89. I have had my love of reading since I was 10. However, over the years it has become lost in “life”. I am slowly trying to revive it by becoming more involved in my local library book club. Found this scavenger hunt on my facebook feed. Going to be a fun weekend discovering new authors and books to add to my reading list! Would love to win books so I can read them and then donate them to my local library for others to enjoy!

  90. I love the scavenger hunts for finding new-to-me authors and convincing me of all of the new books that I *need* to buy! I definitely wouldn’t complain if I was to win any of the prizes too… =)

  98. my favorite thing about the Christian Fiction scavenger hunts is discovering new authors and books to add to my reading list.

  99. Through these Scavenger hunts I’ve discovered many new authors and as a result came in contact with one of authors that is part of Seekerville and after discovering that web site for authors, I decided to try writing a novel in a month. While it took me longer to finish then a month I was able to write 30,000 words that month.

This post was very interesting. People always question when I buy more books or get books in the mail. But they are my family. At this point I have 7 bookcases and have figured out where to put 2 more. I do have a book case in my kitchen. The only room that does not have a bookcase is the bathroom,

  100. I just love to “meet” new authors or hear about their latest works – as a homeschool mom, my time to “browse” in the library is always pretty limited. 😉

  101. I have six bookcases…for now…and when I saw they made ones that go to the ceiling, well I kinda wish I’d gone for those as it always seems I’m running out of room! Lol

  102. This my first time following a scavenger hunt. I can not tell you how exciting and fun this is. As a church librarian, I am always looking for new authors to put on our shelves and this is an incredible way to do it!

  103. I love the Scavenger Hunts for several reasons…1 of course chance to win free books, second love reading about new authors and new books, 3 because it’s simply fun putting clues together. 🙂

  104. I’m loving getting to learn about authors I haven’t heard of yet as well as getting to hear from some of my favorites. I recently added A Name Unknown to my TBR shelf and I just added Robin’s newest book to my shopping cart for pre-order. =)

I have 3 bookshelves at the moment and am hoping that my husband will be able to build me a new one this weekend. I have a few stacks of books waiting for a more horizontally-oriented home. 😉

  105. I enjoy the Christian Scavenger Hunt to learn more about the authors and the wonderful books they wright. Also to have a chance to win the big prize!

  106. I am definitely a book hoarder! I have three bookshelves, plus more books sitting on the floor of my bedroom. I’ve actually parted ways with many of my books recently because I’ve moved nine times in the last five years, and that was a lot of book hauling! My dream is to one day have a room in my house that I can turn into a library.

  107. I love learning more about new authors and their books as well as authors I know and learning more about them and their books as well.

  108. I love learning about new authors….and gleaning new bits of info about “old” authors. And by “old,” I just mean familiar to me. ;o) These scavenger hunts are an interesting way to do that!

  109. This is my first scavenger hunt, and I’m thrilled to be finding some great books to read.
I have a whole wall of shelves, a bookcase of just cookbooks (which I collect) in the kitchen and bookcases in both guest bedrooms.

  110. First , I love Robin’s books. I like to learn more about authors that are unfamiliar to me and catch up on the ones that are. I also like being able to let others know about my favorite authors. Entering the giveaways is good too.

  111. So much fun!
Robin, I have over 3, 000 books and have read around 90% of them, and I am CONSTANTLY adding more!! I love to read.
My never-ending dilemma is not having somewhere to put all my books!
    Blessings~

  112. It so fun. I love finding new Christian authors, my library is going to be way bigger by the time I finish this scavenger hunt. Even if I dont win any books, I know I’ll go and buy a lot of the books showcased in this scavenger hunt! 🙂

  113. I have 4, 5 shelf bookshelves with books, and still probably 2 bookshelves worth of books to yet be put on shelves, our house is to small. 😉 i love collecting books, movies, shows and bookmarks. Also cds. I love the scavenger hunts because of the awesome prizes!

  114. I have 4, 5 shelf bookshelves with books, and still probably 2 bookshelves worth of books to yet be put on shelves, our house is to small. 😉 i love collecting books, movies, shows and bookmarks. Also cds. I love the scavenger hunts because of the awesome prizes!!!

  115. I have one book shelf that is overflowing (not really a book shelf, it is more of a china cabinet that is filled and the under part is filled as well) and then there are two book shelves downstairs mostly filled and I have books in my closet…

My favorite part of the scavenger hunt is getting to know the authors better. I mean the prizes are great, but I love the authors. Perhaps it is because I am an author myself.

  116. I enjoy discovering new authors and books! We moved last year and the movers came to evaluate our stuff. They kept commenting how many books we had! I had to reveal all the boxes of books that we had boxed up to show the house.

  117. This is my first official time participating in a Christian Scavenger Hunt, but so far my favorite part is getting a look at a whole bunch of new authors!!

  118. This is my first official time participating in a Christian Scavenger Hunt, but so far my favorite part is getting a look at a whole bunch of new authors!! And finding new books to read!

  119. I LOVE seeing all the beautiful covers, adding to my “TO READ/OR BUY” list, learning about my favorite authors, and sometimes, discovering new ones!!!!! And, of course, the opportunity to win so many great stories is Amazing!!!! Great question!!!

  120. I like Christian fiction for the way the author speaks the Christian message through the stories. The books are used to draw people into a deeper relationship with Christ. I like the way the authors use scripture, character values , experiences and not inappropriate language.

  121. I enjoy learning about all the upcoming Christian fiction books soon to be released. And I always learn about one or two authors who are new to me.

  122. The hope of winning the books is a hope! I also find other well-respected authors and books to write on m to be read list!

  123. Discovering new authors.
First time I’ve come across a book in which the heroine doesn’t like books. Interesting twist.

  124. I love to learn a little about each author or something about the behind-the-scenes portion of writing their book.

  125. I like to learn more about the authors and their books. It’s always fun to dream about winning too!

  126. My favorite thing about the Christian Fiction scavenger hunts is learning about the authors new to me and of course, the chance to win!!

  127. I love these hunts. It is so much fun getting to read some of the behind the scenes things that go into the novels. It is also fun finding new authors to read.

    Thank you so much,
    Stephanie C.

  128. I love reading about how the authors develop their stories! From drawing out their fictional town to adding in their love for stacks of books. Awesome!

  129. looking forward to reading your books. Love these blog hops to find and learn about new Authors and books.

  130. Hi Robin, This is my first Scavenger Hunt! I have 5 huge book cases at home! I am the church librarian. We do have your books! I just found out that you and I have 2 mutual friends! I have known Katie and Sue Paulding for 30 years! When I was having lunch with Sue on Wed., she told me how she met you! And here I am 2 days later, writing to you! I need to get back to the hunt!

  131. I collect books! Lol And as to how many bookcases…well, it depends on if you mean “in my room” or “in the whole house”.
I have 8 bookcases in my room, but in the whole house? I could be wrong, but just counting shelves from memory, I believe we’ve got like 48 bookcases. My 6 siblings and I are ALL avid readers (learned it from our mom 😉) and we DID dedicate a room to books (aptly named “The Library”), which is situated right outside my bedroom door!
My great-grandma (Granny), who lives with us, can’t believe we have so many books. And she’s completely befuddled that we just keep getting more! But what can I say? We LOVE to read!

  132. This is the first one I have ever done but it is fun learning about other people who are fanatics about books, authors And Jesus!

  139. I like reading about authors that I have not heard of before. Thanks for the scavenger hunt.

  140. I love the scavenger hunts because I love reading. I get to learn of authors out there that I did not know about. I too have books everywhere, but only two bookcases (stuffed) and then boxes/closets full of books. My husband groans every time my mom or sister bring a “load” of books for me to read. We pass the books around so I am never wanting for something to read. Thank you for using your talents to write decent books for everyone to enjoy.

  141. I have never done a scavenger hunt before. This is my fist, but enjoying learning about different authors.

  180. Learning about new authors and their work and lives is what I like the best, and that this is a super creative and fun way to do it. And I learned today that having 3 bookshelves full of books might not make me as bad a book hoarder as my husband claims… E books help, or I would need more bookcases…

  181. Getting to know new authors. Also, getting to know the ones i’m acquainted with better.
