This month (August), America is celebrating 100 years of voting rights for women. It’s the anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment. As you may know, my home state of Idaho gave women the right to vote 24 years before that (1896).
In Catching Katie (winner of the Carol Award and named a “Best Book” by Library Journal), my heroine is a suffragette, returning to Idaho to encourage other women to help pass the 19th Amendment.
I confess that Katie is one of my favorite heroines that I’ve “met” through my years as a writer. I think of her as a dust devil, twirling down the street, leaving little messes in her wake, all while she is trying to do good.
My research for this book was also among my favorites. A fascinating history and one that should be learned by all. See my post about Jeannette Rankin, the first woman in Congress, for more (the post was written as part of Women’s History Month).
In celebration of the passage of the 19th Amendment, the Kindle edition of Catching Katie is going on sale. Beginning on Monday morning, 8/3/2020, at 6 AM PDT, the price will drop to 99 cents. It will increase to $1.99 on 8/6/2020, and then again on 8/9/2020 to $2.99. (A print version is also available, if you prefer.)
If you haven’t had a chance to read and enjoy Catching Katie, I hope you’ll do so now. Or if you own the paperback and want to add the Kindle version to your collection to read again, now is the time.
And don’t forget to vote in November!
