Blog Anniversary: 20 years

Blog Anniversary

Twenty years ago today, I wrote and published my first blog post. Over those twenty years, I’ve written well over 3,000 posts, some brief, some long, some silly, some serious.

When I moved from Diaryland to Typepad, I lost some of those early posts. When I changed my website to WordPress and imported from Typepad, I lost a couple of years worth of posts (no idea why they didn’t export or import). But even with those losses, the majority of my public thoughts are still here on this site. Over 2700 of them.

Blogging has gone up and down in popularity through the years, and it seems to be on the rise again. I don’t post as often as I once did (maybe I don’t have as much time and/or energy; maybe I just don’t have enough to say), but I still like to communicate with readers through my blog and I hope it encourages them to stay a little longer and see all of the information that’s available to them on this website.

When I think of who I was back in 2002, how much I’ve changed, how much my life has changed, how much the world has changed, it’s a little surreal. When I wrote my first blog post, Kindles and iPhones didn’t exist. And computer monitors were still fat and chunky and the operating systems were in towers. Remember those? I still used a camera with film that had to be developed. I’m pretty sure accessing the internet was still via dial-up. Gracious! That was a long time ago.

Anyway, happy blog anniversary to me. I hope I’ll be sharing my books and my writerly thoughts with you here for many, many more years to come.

What do you like to read on an author’s blog? What information do you hope an author will share?

  1. Happy blog anniversary. I believe I have been a subscriber most of those 20 years. Learning about new books on the market is my favorite aspect of blogs. Also, you have shared favorite movies, TV programs, etc., that I have been appreciative of. Admire your determination to complete your degree. Keep up the good work.

  2. I like to read short blogs (no more than 500 words) that tell how the writer’s been motivated/helped on their spiritual journey with “three-point” related suggestions that help me grow. Happy anniversary! You are so faithful to your calling.

  3. HI Robin
I just love when authors are real. When I read their blog, I like to feel like we’re old friends having a coffee together and the author is telling me life. I started blogging my poetry 10 years ago. I haven’t been able to keep up with writing them the past few years, but I still keep the blog going. When I manage to write a poem or a prayer, I post it. If not I change up the design or something. It’s not a very popular blog but that is ok.
I love reading various blogs depending on what I need to hear or the time I have.
God Bless you and your writing. I can hardly wait for I’ll be Seeing You! I’ll be recovering from knee surgery when it comes out. It will give me some new reading material!
    Have a great night!
    Nancy

    1. Nancy, I have had readers say that my blog makes them feel like we are two friends, sitting down to chat over coffee. It’s what I want, so your words resonated with me.
