And He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up toward heaven, He blessed the food and broke the loaves and He kept giving them to the disciples to set before them; and He divided up the two fish among them all. They all ate and were satisfied
~ Mark 6:41–42 (NASB95)In these two passages above, I see something important for my life here on earth: Jesus blesses. Disciples serve. People will be satisfied.
We all know that the world serves up a lot of “food” that doesn’t satisfy. Success. Money. Gadgets. Sex. Booze. Drugs. Entertainment. Etc. Yes, these things can make us feel good for a short period of time, but then that satisfaction goes away and we need more.
As a disciple of Christ, I am called to serve in this world. And what should I serve? The food He has blessed: the Good News. If in everything I write, do, or say, I serve up the Bread of Life, then those who eat of it will be satisfied.
That was my prayer this morning. That in a world broken by sin, in a world that eats and eats but is never satisfied, I might serve through my writing. May I never squander whatever talent God has given to me. May my words touch and lift hearts. May I show love to others, love as Jesus loved, through the stories I tell.
