When I first began writing novels, I wrote for the pure joy of storytelling. Not all parts of writing a novel are fun. A lot is just plain hard work. Most is hard work, actually. But storytelling is fun. Was when I began. Still is.
It has always been a joy to know how my stories and my characters have touched readers. I love getting reader mail and email.
But when Jesus spoke to my heart and called me into a ministry of writing, He changed what was most important about writing for me. I now write for an audience of One. My stories must please Him first, or it matters not at all who else they please.
I was reminded of that at church this morning, and I feel excited about what God means to do with what I offer to Him. For all things work together for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28)
