Rather than watching the news about the Jackson verdict, I popped a favorite film into the DVD player and am watching it as I type this.
I love the movie A Knight’s Tale. A favorite memory is of a room full of noisy writers, watching this film and singing, "We will, we will, rock you!" (I was one of the three noisiest ones in the room; the other two know who they are.)
And my favorite line from the movie? Paul Bettany as Geoffrey Chaucer, sometimes called the father of English literature, says: "I’m a writer. I give the truth scope!"
Oh, that is just soooo good. Giving the truth scope.
update a short while later:
Chaucer, talking to some bad guys who beat him and stole his clothes earlier in the movie: "I will eviscerate you in fiction. Every last pimple. Every last character flaw. I was naked for a day. You will be naked for eternity."
